The town hosts many interesting historical sites and is famous for its Kona Coffee cultivations and the crystal clear sea. Kona International Airport is located at fifteen minutes away in the south of the main town. Along the sea side, there are shops and schools to buy or rent surfing gear, as well as take lessons if you wish to brush up your surfing skills.
Lymans Beach is a small reef rocky cove, with regional classic wave quality and regular frequency. The wind direction is coming from Southeast, East and the size of the swell starts working at 1.5 m/5 ft and holds up to 4 m+/12 ft+. The wave is fast and powerful, fun to ride, but beware of a rock that sticks out of the water close to the shore line.
Lymans Beach is a popular destination for both locals and tourists, so during weekends is crowded. Surfers should be careful of sharp rocks, urchins and sharks.

In the North side of Kealakekua Bay, close to HI-11/ Hawaii Belt Rd, lies the monument of British explorer Captain Cook, who was killed in 1779. The road that leads to the monument is accessible by foot only.
