Bray is located approximately 20 km/12 mi south of Dublin on the east coast. It is a popular seaside resort with a plethora of hotels, restaurants and pubs that attract visitors at any time of the year. But that is not all, Bray is also a great destination for walkers, paragliders and climbers, due to the proximity to Bray Head. Bray Head is a hill, at about 241 m/791 ft height and it forms part of the Wicklow Mountains.
The sea cliffs below Bray Head are very popular to the rock climbing lovers. The top elevation does not exceed the height of 28 m/91.9 ft and the difficulty level is not harder than 5a. The location is sheltered from the westerly winds by Bray Head, so climbers can visit the spot all year long. In addition, the cliffs are generally smooth and hard with some sharp holds.
There are two main climbing areas, Cable Rock and Streaky Slab with a great number of routes to choose the one that suits your skills. Keep in mind that, access to Cable Rock is by abseil. It is advisable to avoid the site after a rainfall, as it can be very slippery. Finally, a fall from almost anywhere on these cliffs will land you in sea.
Note: the spot is reachable by Dart and by car. If you decide to travel by car, you can park your car at Raheen Park and then choose one of the paths that lead to Cable Rock or Streaky Slab.
