Mount Elbrus or Adyge 'Waschhemaxwe' or Karachay-Balkar is a dormant volcano situated in the western Caucasus mountain range, in the Republics of Karachayevo-Cherkesiya and Kabardino-Balkariya, Russia, near the Georgian borders.
Russia in general is a great place for winter sports due to the big amount of snow that covers the mountain slopes. One of the most popular sports there is heli skiing. The mountains are shaped in a way that creates the ideal conditions for heli skiing.
These mountains have places that can’t be reached other ways than a helicopter. In the Urals, there is a mountain that attracts a big amount of heli skiers due to the amazing slope conditions and the >16km/9.1 mi of downhill area.
Mount Cheget, situated next to Mount Elbrus, is a big heli skiing attraction. Its altitude, the amount of snow and the condition of the slopes are making Mount Cheget ideal. Heli skiing is a very dangerous sport, as you are alone out there with mother nature, so it is suggested never to try this alone and whatever your level of experience, take some helpful lessons by qualified instructors.
The position of the mountain makes the downhill thrilling and the frozen landscapes incredible to watch. It’s up to the season and you can either complete the downhill to the lowest part or until the resort.
