Lake Baikal is a rift lake, situated in the south of the region of Siberia, between the Republic of Buryatiya to the southeast and the Irkutsk Oblast to the northwest.
Lake Baikal is a beautiful lake in Siberia, where many extreme sports are taking place. The area is ideal for water sports, especially underwater. Kharantsy is a great place for scuba diving.
Due to the position of the spot, the dives available are ice and fresh water. Ice diving is an incredible way to discover the amazing formations that are shaped by huge ice parts.
The spot is very easy to find from shore and the access is instant. The water is crystal clear, there are no currents and due to the depth of the site the visibility is good. Lake Baikal is the deepest, largest and oldest lake worldwide with an age of 25 million years! The average depth of the dive site is about 5 m/16.4 ft and reaches up to 20 m/65.5 ft.
The general dive site quality is good and the spot offers interesting bio life with many colorful corals, many species of fish and of course amazing formations.
Kharantsy is not an easy dive site and requires previous experience of a level of CMAS ** / AOW. If you are daring enough and curious to experience ice diving, Kharantsy is the place for you!!!
