The Cayman Islands are a British Overseas Territory, situated northwest of Jamaica and south of Cuba, in the western Caribbean Sea. The territory consists of three islands, the Grand Cayman, the Cayman Brac and the Little Cayman. George Town is the capital, located on Grand Cayman, the largest of the three islands. All of the islands enjoy a tropical marine climate, with hot summers and dry, cool winters.
This tropical paradise provides a vast number of beautiful beaches, plenty of accommodation options and restaurants with great cuisine, but most of all excellent dive sites. Dive enthusiasts can experience an incredible marine life, amazing walls, caves and tunnels. The most popular dive locations lie on the west side of the island, due to the diversity of dives and the calm sea conditions. Big Tunnels is one of them!
The spot features a huge coral arch, which drops off to the wall at 30.5-33.5 m/100-110 ft. As its name implies, there are many tunnels, swim-through opportunities and crevices that are waiting to be explored. In addition, divers can also see Orange Tube sponges, eagles rays, tarpons, spiny lobsters, turtles and much more. The average depth here is 15.2 m/49.9 ft and the maximum depth is 30.5 m /100.1 ft. In addition, visibility is very good and varies from 23 m/75.4 ft to 30 m/98.4 ft.
Big Tunnels is suitable for advanced divers. Keep in mind that the spot has currents, so be careful. Last but not least, diving here is great all year round, but the best season runs from December till April. So, if you are a scuba diving lover, Big Tunnels guarantees a lifetime experience!!!
