Near Cascais, just outside Lisbon lies an amazing beach, the Praia da Guincho beach. It is a public beach and you need a car in order to get there, but it is easy to find. The place is extremely popular among surfers who want to ride these awesome waves.
The best spot on the beach, according to surfers, is on the right side of the middle rocks. Crowd is almost everywhere, especially at weekends and this the only spot that is less crowded. When the conditions are ideal, the wind blows from the southwest, south, southeast or east and the swell comes from the southwest or south. Waves can get pretty powerful and just perfect!
The regional classic wave that breaks regularly is appropriate for all levels of surfers. On normal days, the wave length is long up to 150 m/492 ft, while on good days it reaches up to 300 m/984.3 ft.
The swell there starts working at less than 1 m/3 ft and holds up to 3+ m/10+ ft. The spot works well at all tides and the best movement is falling tides. Dangers encountered are rocks and rips/undertow.
Praia da Guincho is a very popular and crowded beach with excellent wave. If you don’t like the crowd, you can always visit the beach on weekdays. Nevertheless, it is a place that is totally worth a visit!!!
