Near Lisbon, at a close distance by car, lies a beautiful beach, Caxias beach. The beach is situated on your way from Lisbon to Cascais, just right after Cruz Quebrada. In order to be able to park, you should come from Cascais. This beach is kind of unique in Lisbon and appropriate for one of the most popular water sports, surfing!
It is unique, due to the fact that only when all the right conditions match, the wave breaks!! This rarely happens only 5 days/year, but when it does, it is totally awesome! All surfers are welcome to this beach that offers normal wave quality. The wave type is point break and waves have great left direction.
The wave is mostly fast, but has a short length, as it reaches only up to 50 m/164 ft. The perfect conditions that make the spot work perfect are the wind blowing from the north or northeast and the swell coming from the west or southwest.
The place is great, when the swell is big. It starts working at 3 – 3.5 m/10 – 12 ft and holds up to 4+ m/12+ ft. All tides work for the spot and the best tide movements are rising and falling tides. The place is empty, as all surfers are waiting for the wave to break! Dangers include pollution, but you have to overpass it, if you are interested in this place.
The best thing for you to do is to check the weather conditions and webcams regularly, in order to find out when it works and ride these amazing waves!
