Hardings beach is a sandy beach, located in West Chatham and a popular destination for kite-surfers. The spot is loaceted at the end of Hardings Beach Road (off of Barn Hill Road) in West Chatham. The spot provides with two parking lots, lifeguards and bathroom. There are plenty of accommodation and dinning options not far from the beach.
The water is adequately warm with consistent winds coming from the South West, which is the best wind direction, prevailing most of the times during the whole day, so one can have a good ride. Best months to visit are May, June, July, August and September. Nothing lies between you and the open water, so you have all the space you need to put forward your skills. Most of the times the wind blows onshore, ideal for beginners and less inviting for experienced athletes, who want to find their way back to the beach.
Another advantage of the spot is a barrier beach that protects the novice windsurfers from the open sea. But when passing by it into the open ocean, the swell becomes stronger and waves bigger giving great thrill to the advanced windsurfers. The beach has a lot of swimmers, so one should ride far from the crowd. One should also watch out for on-shore winds and shorebreak that may have an impact during surfing. Given that beach is also narrow, be careful of fishing weirs at 50 yd/45.7 m off shore.
