Amathole is an area with stunning scenic beauty and rich in history. Located in the Eastern Cape, it has diverse landscapes ranging from mountains, rivers, beaches, forests and estuaries. Hidden gems include the majestic rainforest, which is protected to date. Indigenous forest and breathtaking waterfalls are a must see in this region.
Amathole region offers spectacular hiking experience ranging from moderate to difficult. The trails range between 5 – 10 km / 3.1 – 6.2 mi, lasting about 3 hours or more. The trails are characterized by amazing views of hills and the Kariega River valley.
Hiking is a through the East Cape bush, in and out of kloofs, while walking along streams and in some cases, getting a sneak view of elephants!! The trip can either be a self-guided tour or request to have a guide.
Trail route maps are provided and are easy to read or one can also bring along their navigating device. The paths can be tackled both clockwise or anti-clockwise, with the clockwise direction being a bit more tedious
