Squaw Valley Ski Resort is located in Olympic Valley, California, USA. It is one of the largest ski areas in the US after Heavenly and was the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics.
In 2012 it joined forces with Alpine Meadows, offering access to 6000 ac/24.28 km², 43 lifts and over 270 trails. It attracts about 600.000 snowboarders per year. Its vertical drop is 2850 ft/868.7 m. Its top elevation is 9050 ft/2758 m and its base elevation 6200 ft/1890 m. Skiable area covers 4000 ac/16.18 km² with 177 runs.
From these runs 15% are for beginners, 35% for intermediate and 50% for advanced athletes. Longest run is Mountain Run, which is 3.2 mi/5.1 km. It has a lift system of 33 lifts and lift capacity is 49.000 passengers/hour. There are 3 terrain parks and the average snowfall is 450 in/1.143 cm.
Squaw Valley Ski Resort offers night skiing in beautiful scenery. Night skiing includes Mountain Run and the resort uses a specially made floodlight system, color corrected 1000 Watt High Pressure Sodium Bulbs, which allows superior contrast and better snow vision.
