In order to approach Badger Mountain Trail, you need a 4×4 wheel drive car that can take you through the steep canyon road. The trail is 6 mi/9.6 km long, out and back, about four hours hike, with minimal elevation gain. Badger Mountain trail is like hiking in the desert.
The terrain is shrubby and there are a lot of rattlesnakes, so extra caution is needed if you hike this path during summer. However, when the temperature drops, coyotes, mule deers, birds and many more wild animals and birds come out. The trail leads you on the top of the mountain, above Douglas Canyon, where you can explore the area, without having to follow a certain trail, and admire the view.
The best time to hike this trail is from September through November, but extra caution is needed when heavy rain showers occur. Badger Mountain is a great hike spot, suitable for all skill levels, in a desert looking scenery, different from the alpine nature of the Cascades.
