Wenatchee is the largest city of Chelan County, located in North Central Washington and lies on the west side of the Columbia River. The city is also known as the Apple Capital of the world, due to the valley's apple cultivations.
Chester Butte Wildlife area is protected by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s inventory. The spot is home of the rare desert sage grouse and the last wild population of northern pygmy rabbits in Washington State.
The trail is 5mi/8km long, out and back, about three hours hike, with minimal elevation. The trail leads you on an old jeep track and through sage lands, with amazing wildflowers and birds. Once you reach the top of the butte, you can admire amazing views of broad farmlands and further north, large erratics glaciers in the size of a small house.
The best time to hike this trail is from May through November and is suitable for all skill levels. Chester Butte Wildlife Area is an amazing and interesting hike for nature enthusiasts, offering beautiful views of the broad lands of the Columbia Basin.
