Wenatchee is the largest city of Chelan County, located in North Central Washington and lies on the west side of the Columbia River. The city is also known as the Apple Capital of the world, due to the valley's many apple cultivations.
Big Jim Mountain is located on the Southeastern edge of the Chiwaukum Mountains and is one of the highest peaks of Icicle Ridge. The top elevation of the mountain is at 7763 ft/2366 m high, suitable for climbing all year round.
In order to approach the North Ridge of Big Jim Mountain, you hike up the Badlands Trail and then the Jim Mountain Lases Trail that leads you to the summit of the mountain. It is a short route, 12 mi/19 km long, (out and back), but has more elevation gain. North Ridge Route offers easy scrambling climbing, suitable for all skill levels and can be achieved in a day.
For those who want to experience a true outdoor adventure, it is best to spend the night over in many wonderful campsites, located in Lake Augusta and enjoy nature. Big Jim Mountain is a popular destination for mountain climbers, providing breathtaking views and amazing nature. If you visit North Ridge Route in early season, you will need an ice axe and crampons.
