Grindstone Mountain is located in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, South of Icicle Ridge. The top elevation of the mountain is at 7533 ft/2296 m and is suitable for climbing from July to September. In order to approach Grindstone Mountain, you hike up Chatter Creek Trail.
The length of the route all the way up on the mountain’s peak and back is 10 mi/16 km long and it can be achieved in one day. For those who want to experience a true outdoor adventure, it is best to spend the night over and enjoy nature. The climb offers some exciting class 2 to 2+ boulder scrambling and spectacular views of Mormon Ladies Lakes and the surrounding summits.
Once you reach the top, head down from the same route. Grindstone Mountain is a popular destination for mountain climbing enthusiasts and a great opportunity to enjoy fresh mountain air. If you visit Grindstone Mountain in early season, you will need an ice axe and crampons.
