Lake Tahoe is a lovely place for mountain biking. There is a biking trail called Angora Lakes Climb or Angora Ridge, which is a great introduction for beginners to the beautiful mountain biking experience. The trail is about 2 mi/3.2 km and it is partially paved and partially dirt.
It proceeds for about 2 mi/3.2 km to Angora Lookout and then 2 more mi/3.2 km to Angora Lakes. While biking, you can enjoy the spectacular view of Fallen Leaf Lake and Mt. Tallac. When you reach Angora Lakes, take a moment to admire the panoramic view of Lake Tahoe and Desolation Wildness.
The view is magnificent. One of the trails, Mr. Toad’s is dangerous, highly technical, stomach turning, 1500 ft/457.2 m descent from the 7200 ft/2195 m trail-head at Big Meadow. Many rough, rock chutes drops of up to 6 ft/1.8 m, making this ride only for experts.
This 13 mi/20.9 km ride makes a nice combination with a circular route that follows Route 89 south from Meyers towards Luther Pass for a little less than 4.5 mi/7.2 km. That part, the hard one, is known as Saxon Creek trail. If you plan to make the whole circuit, make sure you have a lot of water with you.
