At the south end of Avalon beach, there is a broad salt water rock pool. The north side of the beach attracts surfers of all levels. Avalon beach is an exposed beach break that has dependable surf at all stages of the tide. Surfers can explore the waves with swell sizes from 3 ft (1 m) to 16 ft (5 m). The best tide movement is all tides.
Good wind direction is from the northwest, west. In summer the wind blows offshore at 11%, in autumn the wind blows at 20%, in winter at 20% and in spring at 12%. This spot can produce excellent waves all year long. The average water temperature is about 21°C/69.8°F. It is a crowded spot, especially on weekends, so be patient. Watch out for locals.
