Kahului is located in Maui Island in Hawaii and is the largest city of the Island. It is considered to be a shopping destination because there are several major stores and malls.
It’s also home to Kahana Pond State Wildlife Sanctuary and the Alexander and Baldwin Sugar Museum, dedicated to Maui’s sugar industry. Kahului’s own major airport is located in the North shore. The climate is tropical wet, but during winter is very windy and dry, ideal for water sports.
Along the sea side, there are schools and shops to buy or rent surfing gear as well as to take surfing lessons if you are a beginner. Churches Beach is great for beginners. It offers normal wave quality taking both right and left directions and ordinary wave power, fun to ride.
The wind direction is coming from the north, northwest and the size of the swell starts working at 1.5 m/3 ft and holds up to 3 m+/10 ft+. Churches beach is a popular beach mainly for the locals, so even during weekends, there are just a few surfers. Surfers should be careful of rip currents, urchins, rocks and sharks.
