Kailua Kona is located in the North Kona District, Hawaii. It is a lively seaside town with sunny tropical weather all year long and lies at the bottom of the Hualalai Volcano.
The town hosts many interesting historical sites and is famous for the Kona Coffee cultivation and the crystal clear sea. Kona International Airport is located at fifteen minutes in the south of the main town.
Along the sea side there are shops and schools to buy or rent diving gear, as well as take diving lessons if you are a beginner. Garden Eel Cove is a very interesting spot for scuba diving, approachable only by boat, with an average depth of 59 ft/18 m and maximum depth of 80 ft/24.4 m. The bio-diversity of the bottom is amazing.
The sea is reef coral with low current and excellent visibility perfect for beginners. You will come across lobsters, coral reefs, colored tropical fish and hundreds of garden eels. But the best time to go diving is during the night when you come across over sixty different species of Rays feeding with sea algae.
