In the Praça Infante Dom Henrique you can find the status of prince Henry, or Henry the Navigator. He was instigated the discovery voyages, when the trade between Portugal and Africa brought wealth in to the place. After the voyages, slaves were brought back, that were sold in the ‘Slave Market’. You can find it in the opposite side of the famous Lagos ‘golden church’ of St. Anthony. On the hill, behind the fish market, you can find the church of St. Sebastian.
The view from up there is amazing. But, the view from Foia, the highest mountain in Algarve at 902 m/2.959 ft is just unique. Take your mountain bike and let’s explore the beauty of the nature. There is a hand built shuttle route, 10 km/6 mi long. Start from the road with the gravels through the windmill park. Continue by flirting with the eucalyptus forests and the small farms. You can take another route, the beautiful Serra de Monchique. Follow the 6 km/3 mi black route to Monchique town.
If you choose the downhill off-road trip, then the fitness level that is required is nº 3 and the difficulty is C. If you prefer the downhill nature trip, the difficulty is B and the fitness level that is required is nº 2. There are mountain bike schools, with experts at your disposal. They can provide you with the right equipment and they will help you with any difficulty you encounter in your route.
