Richardson's beach is located in Hilo, Hawaii, which is the most populated city of the island. Hilo is an old fashioned bay front town, with tropical rain forest climate all year long and home of the Tsunami Museum, dedicated to the understanding of the 1946 Pacific Tsunami.
Hilo hosts its own international airport right outside the city, about 10 minutes away by car, with unfortunately no public transportation available from the airport. Along the sea side, there are many shops to buy or rent snorkeling gear.
Richardson’s beach is considered to be a good snorkeling spot for all divers, with medium visibility and interesting marine life to be observed and admired, since it is a rocky cove with nice corals, fish and if you are lucky, you can come along some sea turtles.
The average depth is 10 m/32.8 ft and the current is low. During weekends the beach is ultra crowded because it provides many facilities such as showers, lifeguards etc. Snorkeling fans are advised to be careful of urchins, rip currents and sharks.
