In north-east Aberdeenshire, a 18 km/11.5 mi long coastline with sandy beaches can definitely come up with the most demanding kite-surfer's expectations.
One beautiful spot along that coastline is Balmedie. The beach is quite demanding and more challenging when it comes to weather conditions. When you meet mid to low tides, then the sea reveals large pools of buttery flat water. You should also be careful since the sea at low tide can reveal dangerous obstacles such as concrete bricks, pipes and wooden posts.
Best winds are northeast to south-southwest. However, the backdrop of the beach is stunning and it is covered with a thick layer of sand. There is a car park, where you can leave your car with safety and from there you need 5 minutes walking to the beach.
Facilities on the beach, apart from the car park, offer free of charge toilets and in the Balmedie village there is a pub, which provides accommodation. If you prefer to be more cosmopolitan, then Aberdeen city is not far away from the spot.
