Victoria is the second-smallest state of Australia. It borders with New South Wales to the north and Tasman Sea to the east. The unique combination of spectacular coastline, pristine beaches, numerous national parks, dense forests and mountains attract visitors all year long and offer a plethora of activities to sport lovers.
Mornington Peninsula lies to the southeast of Melbourne, Victoria’s capital city. It is surrounded by Western Port to the east and Port Phillips to the west. There is a vast number of great surf sites and a plethora of excellent dive spots all along this section. Cape Schanck is located between Flinders and Gunna. The average depth here is at 15 m/49.2 ft and the maximum is at 28 m/91.9 ft.
Visibility is medium and varies from 5 m/16.4 ft to 10 m/32.8 ft. You are able to dive on either side of the cape but the western side is considered to be the best. It is a good dive site for novice and advanced divers alike. In addition, you will most likely encounter old wives, leather jackets, lobsters, large sweeps and small cat sharks. Finally, apart from scuba diving you can also explore the peninsula which is famous for the variety of beaches, the wineries and the mazes.
