The Spit is an exposed beach break between Point Cartwright and Mooloolaba beach. On this spot surfers are able to explore the waves with swell sizes from 1 m-1.5 m/3 ft-5 ft and holding up to 3 m/10 ft. Offshore winds blow from the southwest and the ideal swell direction is from the east, northeast. In addition, the best tide movement is rising and falling tides and the ideal tide position is all tides.
The average water temperature is around 28°C/82.4°F in summer and around 20°C/68°F in winter. Furthermore, the site is suitable for novice and advanced surfers alike. In summer, the wind blows offshore at 35%, in autumn the wind blows at 57%, in winter at 44% and in spring at 30%. The Split is a popular surf location, so it is usually very crowded. Last but not least, if you decide to surf at this place, do not miss to visit Point Cartwright Light, which is an active lighthouse, that lies on Point Cartwright. Note: be careful of rips.
