Mudjimba is a beautiful suburb of the Sunshine Coast, that took its name after a local plant, the Midyam bush. Mudjimba Island or Old Woman Island is located at about 1 km/3.28 mi off the coast and it is considered to be the best surf break in the Sunshine Coast.

Old Woman Island also provides with an interesting and safe dive site. The average depth here is at 10 m/32.8 ft and the maximum is at 15 m/49.2 ft. Visibility is good and varies from 10 m/32.8 ft to 30 m/98.4 ft. In addition, the spot is suitable for all divers and it is the perfect location for beginners. The average water temperature is around 28°C/82.4°F in summer and around 20°C/68°F in winter.

Old Woman Island is home to numerous hard and soft corals, nudibranch species and sea sponges. Divers will have the opportunity to witness an abundant marine life. Expect to see tropical fish, crayfish, starfish, turtles, sea whips, gorgonians, stingrays, moray eels, wobbegong sharks, coral trout and small groper. Last but not least, it is also a great place for snorkeling. Note: book a boat dive in one of the many scuba schools located in the area.
