Munich is a great city for free running. The parks, the bridges, the roads, the forests, the buildings all seem to be designed to serve free runners! One route for free running is Laufen Isar. It is a small almost round trip of 5.6 mi / 9 km long that you can run in only 15 minutes, full of excitement though!
At this route, you will begin on the one side of Isar river and continue southerly. You will then pass a bridge over Isar and continue to a lovely forest that will cool you on hot summer days, offering you some shade. Breathe the refreshing odor of the pine trees and continue your wild run deeper in the forest.
Be careful if you try this route in winter because of the snow and ice. Then you will again pass one bridge over Isar but don’t go on the other side! You will come back at the beginning of the bridge and continue on a road along Isar.
At some point, you will start running at the beginning of your running experience (see the map) passing again from forests, bridges and roads. You might get wet so make sure you will have everything you need with you, including fresh water. At this route you will meet an elevation gain of 600 ft / 182.8 m.
