Ericeira offers beautiful and clean beaches. One of them is Sao Lourenco at 7 km/4 mi north of the village’s center.
The spot offers the right conditions for body-board. It’s a sand-bar with power waves. They have right and left direction. The swell size starts working at 1.5 m-2 m /5 ft-6 ft and holds up to 3 m+ / 10 ft+. For the swell, the northwest direction is the best, and for the wind the southeast and east direction.
In summer, the waves swell size is from 1.3-2 m (4-6.5 ft) most of the time and the wind blows offshore at 7%. In winter, the wind blows offshore at 33% and the waves swell size is from 2-3 m (6.5-10 ft) and at 22% of the time >3 m (10 ft). In autumn, the wind blows offshore at 27% and the swell size is from 1.3-2 m (4-6.5 ft) to 2-3 m (6.5-10 ft). In spring, the waves swell size is from 2-3 m (6.5-10 ft) most of the time and the wind blows offshore at 22%.
The beach is appropriate for experienced body-boarders, but if you are not, don’t worry, because there are body-board schools, with experts at your disposal, in case you need. In Ericeira, in your spare time you can visit the museum, the municipal library or the cultural center. There are lots of accommodation and other leisure activities.
