At the Northeastern Oregon lies Aneroid Lake, a notorious destination for cross country skiing. Located on Aneroid Mountain, the snowy slopes attract a lot of snow fans.
The snow begins to cover the mountains quite early, at the beginning of October, but note that this area is dangerous because of avalanches.
The trail has 16 mi/25.7 km length and it is an out and back trail. In general, there is plenty of skiing terrain in the area to choose from. Due to its majestic location and the enchanting scenery of the beautiful lake among the forested mountains, this spot is famous all year round and for all kinds of sports.
You should know that you cannot approach the lake by vehicle, there is only a hiking trail, which can be used for that reason. Closest town is Joseph, a small but lovely place, some even call it the Little Switzerland of America, because of the alpine landscape of the Wallowa mountain range. This is an exciting getaway for many people and a special place for the outdoor fans.
The locals are friendly people and there are plenty of accommodation, shops and restaurants around.
