Trentino – Alto Adige, in northern Italy, is considered to be the home place of cross country skiing, not without good reason. With an incredible number and variety of trails and with the most prestigious and important competitions of international level, the region is simple the top cross country skiing destination.

On Adige side, Val Pusteria is the ideal playground for any cross country skier. Hundreds of kilometers of trails and circuits are extended across the entire area.

The most popular rings cross the east Adige, in the Val di Casies with more of 45 km/28 mi of trails. In the Upper Pusteria, near Passo Stalle is the starting point of a fixed annual appointment, the Pustertaler Ski Marathon. The race offers two versions, the short circuit, in freestyle, which covers 30 km/18.6 mi and starts at Dobbiaco and has ending point the Braies while the long course represents a classic style cross country skiing of 42 km/26 mi from Dobbiaco to Sesto.

The Marathon is open to all the fans, professionals and beginners. Nearby, the Dolomites di Lienz host the last 40 years the long distance cross country ski competitions, such as the National Championships, some European Cup races and regional events. In Val Casies, the Gsiesertal Lauf Race, organized by European Federation of Cross Country Ski, is held on the spot during the last 30 years. In Alta Badia, in Val Gardena, the FIS OPA Continental Cup and the national Championship of long distance ski take place on an annual basis.
