Sochi is a city situated in the federal subject of Krasnodar Kray, Russia. Its exact location is near the border between Russia and Georgia, on the Black Sea coast. Sochi is known to the entire world, as the 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics are about to take place here.
One of the most thrilling snow sports existing is heli skiing. It involves a helicopter ride to the summit and then a crazy freeride descent to the base of the resort. Krasnaya Polyana and the area that surrounds it and more specifically Alpika Service Mountain Ski Resort are made for heli skiing.
If you have no previous experience, you will heli ski in a non glacial terrain that stands at an elevation of about 700 m/2297 ft. If you do have previous experience, you can reach the top and freeride from there.
Imagine after the helicopter leaves you in the middle of nowhere, just you, mother nature and some other insane heli skiers and breath the frozen air, while admiring the breathtaking snowy vistas spread on your feet, looking like an endless white carpet.
The anticipation grows and the time comes for you to take the leap and go! You will feel like flying, as the snow is like soft powder below your skis. The only thing you will want to do after reaching the lowest level, is to do it again!
Krasnaya Polyana is a never ending succession of magnificent forests with perfectly spaced silver birches, snow conditions that Europe hasn’t seen in many years, existing only in Russia and making the area an exceptional heli skiing destination.
