Sochi is a city situated in the federal subject of Krasnodar Kray, Russia. Its exact location is near the border between Russia and Georgia, on the Black Sea coast. Sochi is known to the entire world, as the 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics are about to take place here.
One of the most thrilling and exciting winter sports is Heli Skiing. It is an awesome sport and you are being transferred with a helicopter to the peak of a mountain and freeride on the snowy slopes! The best place near Sochi to practice Heli Skiing is Rosa Khutor Ski Resort.
When you get your equipment ready and if you haven’t any, you can always rent from the resort, you will be lifted up with the helicopter at the Rosa Peak, which lies at an elevation of 2320 m/7612 ft.
Then the helicopter leaves and you are ready to confront the unbelievable vertical drop of 1745 m/5725 ft. Next follows a thrilling freeride to the lowest part of the resort, which is at an elevation of 560 m/1837 ft.
This sport is extremely dangerous, so it is highly suggested to take all the precautions, because if you get injured, you are outside of the resort. Also never try this alone, always have someone with you to back you up, if something goes wrong.
Nevertheless, it is an experience that you should definitely try, if you are a fan of extreme winter sports.
