The city is a must-visit for water sports as it provides easy access into endless sandy beaches with sparkling waters. Crandon Park is located on the incredible island of Key Biscayne, just a few miles away from downtown Miami.
With many rare plants, colorful butterflies and huge coconut trees, the area is also home to a breathtaking sandy beach of about 2mi/3.2km long with coastal dunes and a lagoon style open sea, perfect for kite boarding. The main direction of the wind is east but the best wind is when coming from north east usually from December to May. The lagoon has from 1 up to 4 ft/0.3-1.2 m shallows all around with flat spots on the inside and good wave breaks on the sand reef, ideal for tricks and jumps.
Suitable for all skill levels, Crandon Park’s beach is a small paradise with pristine sand. The spot is organized with showers, lifeguards and other facilities as well as schools that provide with lessons for beginner kite borders, or those who want to learn new tricks. Note that the beach is ultra crowded during weekends. While kite boarding, look out for other water crafts.
