It's not a shampoo advertisement, it's all about kite-surf. It's an extreme sport that combines five sports in one (wake-board, paragliding, surf, windsurf, gymnastic). The alternate game with the waves and the wind gives you an overdose of adrenaline.
If you are looking for a place where you can flirt with the sun and come face to face with this addictive sport, then you should visit Ericeira.
It’s a small fishing village, in the municipality of Mafra, in Portugal. It’s a tourist destination and well known for its mild temperature and the 300 days of sunshine. The hospitality of the villagers make you feel like being home. Walk through the narrow cobblestone streets and enjoy the view of the characteristic houses. You can visit the the municipal library (Biblioteca Municipal da Ericeira) and the cultural centre (Casa de Cultura Jaime Lobo E Silva). There is also the Sta. Casa da Misericórdia da Ericeira Museum, full of history, ethnology, archeology and ancient art.
In the south of Ericeira, at 2 km/1.4 mi from the village’s center, you can find Foz do Lizandro beach. It has the right conditions for kite-surf. In autumn and on good days, the wind and waves swell size are from 1.3 to 3 m (4-10 ft) and the wind blows offshore 7%. In the winter, the wind blows offshore 12% and when the waves have a temper for games, the swell size is 2-3 m (6.5-10 ft). In spring, the wind blows offshore 6% and the waves swell size is <1.5 m/5 ft and on good days, the swell size is 1.3-2 m (4-6.5 ft). In summer, the waves swell size is most of the time <1.5 m/5 ft but on good days there are waves with swell size 1.3-2 m (4-6.5 ft) and the wind blows offshore 0,6%.
The swell size starts working at 1.0 m-1.5 m / 3 ft-5 ft and holds up to 3 m+ / 10 ft+. The waves direction is right and left and they are powerful and funny. It’s a beach-break with regional classic waves. In Ericeira, you can taste fresh fish and other seafood. There are lovely accommodations, in case you want to take a nap.
