Vilamoura lies on the Algarve coast, specifically located in the municipality of Loule in the Algarve. It is approximately 24.5km/15mi from Faro, the southernmost city in Portugal. During spring the wave swell size is at 1.5-4 ft (0.5-1.3 m) and the wind blows offshore at 8%.
The 2012 Kiteboarding Course Racing Iberian Championship took place in Vilamoura beach and organized by the CIMAV (Club International de Marina de Vilamoura).
