The town is surrounded by the awe-inspiring Southern Alps, with spectacular mountains such as the Crown Range, Haast Pass, Roys Peak and Pisa Range and is close to Mount Aspiring National Park (World Heritage Area). Despite the mountainous scenery, the climate is considered to be continental, with fairly warm summers and temperatures that can reach up to 25°C/77°F, and cold winters with frequent snowfalls.
Wanaka has to offer one of the best skateparks in New Zealand. It is situated in Pembroke Park and is basically a newly built skatepark with modern design and obstacles, perfect for transition and street skating. It hosts many concrete ramps, rails, fast and relatively hard banks and hips, several medium pyramids and some of the best bowls you have ever seen!
Slide on the rails, make your jumps and ollies off the ramps and land back again on your board and do stunning kick-flips and drop-ins. Buy or take your skateboard with you and get ready to perform amazing tricks up in the air!
