Sochi is a city situated in the federal subject of Krasnodar Kray, Russia. Its exact location is near the border between Russia and Georgia, on the Black Sea coast. Sochi is known to the entire world, as the 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics are about to take place here.
Rosa Khutor is a resort situated in southwestern Russia, in the western Caucasus, right at Aibiga Ridge along the Rosa Khutor plateau. It is one of the largest ski resorts near Krasnaya Polyana and is well known, as it is about to host the alpine skiing events of the 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
The resort was built from 2003 to 2011 and is in perfect condition, tested and ready to host the skiing events. One sport that is taking place in the resort is speed skiing. The area is absolutely perfect for speed skiing, due to the amazing vertical drop.
The summit, Rosa Peak lies at an elevation of 2320 m/7612 ft and combined with the lowest point at an elevation of 560 m/1837 ft, creates an amazing elevation difference of 1760 m/5774 ft!! Start from the main skiing area, the Rosa Plateau, which is at an elevation of 1170 m/3839 ft, giving a vertical drop of 1150 m/7612 ft.
The Rosa Stadium, the finish line for the skiing events is at an elevation of 940 m/3084 ft, at the eastern edge of Rosa Khutor resort with a vertical drop of 1380 m/4528 ft. In order to succeed maximum speed, it is suggested to take the Caucasus Express Gondola and reach the summit, from where you can let yourself go!
You can choose between 26 tracks that cover an area of 44 mi/72 km. The majority of the slopes face the northeast and the backside slopes face the southwest.
In order to reach lower slopes, you can use one of the 10 lifts. 1 rope tow, 3 gondolas, 3 magic carpets and 3 chairlifts will move you around. After the constructions completion, they will be 19. Rosa Khutor is an amazing resort and the best place to practice speed skiing near the Georgian borders.
