Puerto Rico is situated in the northeastern Caribbean and consists of an archipelago that includes the main island of Puerto Rico and a number of smaller islands. The climate here is classified as tropical marine climate, with an average temperature of 82.4°F/ 28°C, throughout the year. Although it is a small island, the smallest island of the Greater Antilles, Puerto Rico provides superb natural surroundings, countless adventure experiences and many places of historical interest.

Isabela is a coastal city, located on the northwest coast of Puerto Rico. It is also known as the “Garden of the Northwest”, due to the unique combination of beautiful beaches, submarine rivers, caves, a rainforest and interesting archaeological sites. Isabela is also known for its amazing surfing spots. In fact, it was the host city for two World Cup Surfing Championships in the 20th century. Shacks is another popular beach for surfing, located west of Jobos.

It is an exposed reef break that offers consistent surf at any time of the year. The location is mostly recommended for advanced surfers. The swell sizes start from 1 m/3 ft and hold up to 2.5 m/8 ft. Offshore winds blow from the south, southeast and the best period for waves is from October to July. In addition, the ideal swell direction is from the north and offers right hand waves.

In summer, the wind blows offshore at 9%, in autumn it blows at 21%, in winter at 12% and in spring at 23%. Furthermore, there are many surf schools and shops in a short distance drive from the surf site. Finally, Shacks is also a great spot for snorkeling and scuba diving during summer months. Note: be careful of rocks and localism.
