Mark Occhilupo, the famous professional surfer and world champion made Cronulla beach a famous surf spot. The beach features a long stretch of sand, extending from Boat Harbor to North Cronulla. Wanda beach is a popular surfing destination. The spot is appropriate for all surfers.
The best wind direction is from the west, southwest and the ideal swell direction is from the southeast, east. You can explore the waves with swell sizes from 1 m-1.5 m/3 ft-5 ft and holds up to 2 m/6 ft. In summer the wind blows offshore at 29%, in autumn the wind blows at 39%, in winter at 49% and in spring at 33%.
The ideal period for surfing is in summer or early autumn because the average water temperature is at 21°C/69.8°F. Local surf schools provide lessons from beginners to advanced. Finally, visitors can enjoy the magnificent view of the sea in one of the many cafes and restaurants that lie on the streets around the beach.
