West Sussex is located in the south of England. The climate here is classified, like in the rest of the British Isles, as oceanic climate with chilly winters and warm summers. West Sussex offers a plethora of recreational activities and sports for visitors and locals alike.
West Wittering is situated on the South Coast and it is a popular destination for a number of water-sports. It is a sheltered beach break that offers inconsistent surf. The optimum time for surfing here is around high tide. The best wind direction is from the northeast and the ideal swell direction is from the southwest. Surfers are able to explore the waves with swell sizes that can start from 1 m/3 ft and hold up to 2 m/6 ft.
In addition, the spot offers both left and right hand waves. In summer, the wind blows offshore at 9%, in autumn the wind blows at 7%, in winter at 8% and in spring at 11%. Furthermore, the surf break is suitable for novice and advanced surfers alike. The best tide movement is rising and falling tides and the ideal tide position is mid and high tide. Finally, West Wittering is very crowded when it works. Note: be careful of buoys and rips.
