If you like the wind and you need a combination of surfing and sailing, then windsurf is the right choice. You can jump, spin maneuvers or invert loops, but you need the right spot. Let's travel in Paul do Mar, a small peaceful village.
The spot is located in Calheta, on the southwest coast of a Portuguese archipelago island, Madeira. It’s well known as a fishing village, because of the big variety of fish the Atlantic ocean provides it with. In this place you can find harmony and peace. But, you can also find the adrenaline you need, once you come face to face with good waves.
The swell size starts working at 1,5-2m/ 5-6 ft and holds up to 4m+ / 12ft. The best swell direction is from the west. The best waves are observed in autumn and winter. The wave swell size is between 2 and 3m (6,5-10ft) and the wind blows offshore at 34% and 37% respectively.
In the summer, we have waves with swell size from 1,3 to 2m (4-6,5ft) and the wind blows offshore at 25%, while in the spring the waves have the same swell size and the wind blows offshore at 35%. There is a windsurf school in Paul do Mar, in case you need.
You can taste the good fish at the seafood restaurants, scroll around the banana fields, eat passion fruits and do many other activities under the sunshine. You can also find accommodation options, where you can relax.
