Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in United Kingdom. Every year, around 110,000 people walk up to the summit. However, only a few are able to perform a three minute descent. So, anyone for speed flying?
Situated in the Highlands of Scotland, Ben Nevis has an altitude of about 1344 m/4409 ft. It is a very attractive spot to speed flyers, not only for its height but also for its long vertical descent. Actually, with a vertical descent of over 1219 m/4000 ft long, it provides the longest flight available in Great Britain.
On the west side, the landing area is only at 30 m/98 ft above sea level! There are many points available for a take-off. The best is from the peak of Five Finger Gully, at 1200 m/3937 ft. As any place in Scotland, Ben Nevis is characterized by unpredictable weather conditions. No steady winds are frequent, so a wind speed anemometer would be a good idea.
Fort William, within only five minutes away from Ben Nevis, is a great tourist center. A wide range of hotels and facilities are provided, so to best enjoy your relaxing time.
