Chatfield Reservoir is a busy lake and a dam, situated on the South Platte River, south of Littleton, Colorado. The dam was built by the United States Army Corps of Engineers at 1965 due to a disastrous flood.
Its primary purpose is flood control. Besides that, the lake is used for recreational purposes. Chatfield Reservoir is a hot spot for jet skiing.
The 1500 ac (6.07 km²) lake has a flood control pool of over 350000 ac/1416.4 km² and storage capacity of 27000 ac/109.27 km². At its deepest point it reaches 47 ft (14.33 m). Around the lake is Chatfield State Park, a park of magnificent beauty and many opportunities for outdoor activities.
It is really hard to imagine that this vibrant, bustling, lovely lake is just outside the Denver Metro Area. The water at the lake is both warm and cold. At the shore there is a full service marina and many other stores that offer rentals and lessons.
With Chatfield Lake’s diverse activities, fantastic recreation, wilderness and rich history, it is surely a popular point for visitors, as it is with the natives of Denver.
