Atlanta is the most populous city of Georgia, the capital of the county and the county seat of Fulton County. The city is an economical and cultural center of Atlanta Metropolitan Area and the ninth largest metropolitan area in the US. Atlanta is ideally located among the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains at an elevation of 1050 ft / 320 m above sea level. Although it is part of Fulton County, a small part extends into DeKalb County.
Just outside Atlanta, you will come across one of the most challenging OHV Trail Systems, the Windy Gap OHV Trail System. It consists of two trails for ATV and one for motocross. The motocross trail is addressed to more experienced riders, providing switchbacks, some pretty steep hill climbs with large rocks and roots.
The specific trail is a dead end, so the only way out is the way you came in at the first place. The trails sum is 12 mi/19.3 km in an area of 8 mi²/21 km² of forest trails with an elevation of 950 to 3200 ft/290 – 975 m. The trails are marked, lightly maintained, but not rated.
The soil conditions and obstacles you will meet are loose dirt, hard pack, mud, dust, rocks and of course a lot of trees, as it lays in a forest, so expect a lot of shade. With the assistance of steep hills and berms, you will be able to try many different tricks with your motocross.
The track is mostly suitable for amateurs, little novices and some experts. The area is opened all year round and you won’t have to pay for anything, but bear in mind that there is a noise limit.
