Near Bear Valley lies Ebbetts Pass, which has one of the best known caverns, Moaning Cavern. The cavern is located on Parrotts Ferry Road, 6 mi/9.6 km south of Murphys. It is known for its main chamber, commodious, vertical room, which is huge and could contain inside it the Statue of Liberty.
The cave offers walking tours and three-hour adventure trips. The cavern walk tours are provided by professional and experienced guides all year through. The 45 minutes tour goes through marble passes and includes a 234 stair cathode in the main chamber.
The rope rappel is a 165 ft/50.3 m descend inside the chamber, which lasts 45 minutes and requires no special experience. The adventure trip is a 3 hour exploration in dark areas without paths or stairs. The adventurers have to wear helmets with lights on, coveralls and gloves in order to climb and crawl through the paths.
