Perth is the capital city of Western Australia, located on the Swan River. The climate here is classified as Mediterranean, with hot and dry summers and cool and wet winters. There is a plethora of climbing sites close to the capital city. Statham’s Quarry lies in Gooseberry Hill and is less than an hour drive from Perth. It is a very popular location for rock climbing and abseiling. Stathams Quarry provides a number of walls with good climbing conditions on clean and solid rock but with some loose rock around the top of the cliff, so it is advisable to wear a helmet.
In addition, the majority of the climbs are low to mid range trad routes or high grade sport climbs. There are about 10 different areas here and the difficulty level varies, depending on the chosen route. The Central Slab Area has some easy trad routes, perfect for beginners while ”5” Wall is suitable for more experienced climbers. Last but not least, the best period for rock climbing is from September to May.
