Berthoud Pass is located between Idaho Springs and Winter Park and is one of the closest areas in Denver for snowshoeing. It belongs to Boulder County and is just an hour away.
The top of the pass is at 11307 ft/3446 m and has access to a wide array of backcountry stashes. Eldora Mountain Resort is located 21 mi/33.8 km away from Boulder and 47 mi/75.6 km away from Denver. It is a perfect place for snowshoeing. It is supposed to be Colorado’s best kept snowshoeing secret.
Eldora’s Nordic Center offers an extensive network of trails, which start only a few steps from the ski lifts and goes through alpine meadows, serene forests and dramatic mountain backdrops. The trails cover 24 mi/40 km long and are designated for snowshoeing.
Among the trails, 20% are for beginners, 50% intermediate and 30% advanced. At Eldora Nordic Center, you can rent your equipment, take lessons and clinics. Also at the center, you can have something to eat or drink and opportunity to purchase a variety of sundries like gloves, hats and sunglasses.
Winter and holidays are the best time to visit the resort. In winter temperature varies from 1˚F to 33˚F/-17.2˚C to 0.5˚C.
