Some people may think that to stay in shape you require a gym subscription or fancy equipment.   Yet in reality, you can stay in shape from wherever you are—and your home is no exception.

Setting up a gym at home doesn’t have to require expensive machines. All you need is a little bit of self-discipline and some big sick supplies. Whether you’ve got a small budget or a larger one, here are some tips for staying in shape at home.

Establish a Routine

The first thing you should do is establish a routine that you think you can realistically stick to. Consistency is the key when it comes to getting into comments so the more that you can develop a routine the faster you will likely see results.

Create a daily or weekly schedule for your workouts and make sure that you stick to them. Same as you wouldn’t skip a doctor appointment or haircut, the same should be applied to your workout schedule. Whether you decide to do some yoga stretches while watching an instructional video on YouTube, or doing jumping jacks in your living room, sticking to a routine will help you maintain your discipline and see the results you want to see.

Use Your Bodyweight

If you don’t have any equipment at home, don’t worry! What many people don’t realize is that you can start by using your own body weight. That’s right, you don’t need anything other than your own body to get a workout by getting exercises like push-ups, squats and lunges.

What’s more, these types of exercises can be modified to be easier on your body until you work your way up to a more challenging version. What’s more, they require minimal space, all you need is your own body!

Use Household Items

Otherwise, if using your own body weight isn’t your cup of tea, you’d be happy to know that common household items can serve as workout equipment. For example, you can use water bottles or canned goods as weights. You can use a sturdy chair for tricep dips, or even a towel as a resistance band. You’d be surprised how many things you have at home if you’re willing to get a little creative and think outside of the box.

Stay Active Throughout The Day

Instead of limiting your daily physical activities to your workout time, try to stay active throughout the day even when it’s not necessarily workout time. Go for a walk a few times a day. Stand up from your desk and stretch or do a few jumping jacks. The more you can stay active and incorporate movement into your daily routine, the more calories you’ll burn by the end of the day.
