Penken BattleMayrhofen – Freestyle at its Best
On February 3rd, a number of highly motivated riders fought a mega-battle at the Penken Park Mayrhofen. The 3rd stop of the QParks Tour – thePenken Battle – had everything one would expect from a freestyle contest: phat beats, free lunch and drinks, riders from a whole bunch of different countries, a first-class neatly shaped setup and – of course – sick slopestyle action!
Despite the fact that the weather was not looking good and there was no final run due to heavy snowfall, participants had an awesome slopestyle contest at a high level and a crackin’freestyle party.
Results Snowboard: Russian rider Anton Mamaev (RUS) convinced the judges with his BS Double Cork 1080 and thus not only took the 1st place in the category Snowboard Men, but also won the Best Trick Award. He was followed by GabeAdams (GBR) and the Austrian rider MoritzKaufmann (AUT). In the category Snowboard Ladies two girls from Great Britain made it onto the winner’s podium: LucaMaiLaneHopkins (GBR) took the first place, EmmaLantos (AUT) the second and AmberFennell (GBR) the third. In the category Groms, GabeAdams (GBR) eventually took the first place, followed by EthanSmith (GBR) on the second and BenniFridbjornsso (ISL) on the third place.
Results Freeski: In the category Freeski Men, the Finn PetoloSimo (FIN) shredded with a Disaster 450 on 270 out onto the podium’s first step and thus got himself 150€ and a goodie bag. BojanStankovic (DE) came in second, followed by the third ManuGander (AUT). The young Austrian HannesRudiger (AUT) convinced the judges with a Left Cork 720 Blunt and won the Best Trick Awardworth 100€. The 14-year-old Austrian SelinaJäger (AUT) from the Tyrolian Ski Association (Tiroler Skiverband, TSV)that participated in the event as team, was able to take the first place in two categories at once, namely in the category Freeski Ladies and in the category Grom Ladies. She was followed by NadienCassar (AUT) and VictoriaRessel (AUT) in the first category and by GretaStaudacher (AUT) and SiljeKinkead (AUS) in the other. Elias Wecher (AUT) led the category Grom Men. DanielBacher (AUT) and NicoHauzenberger (DE) finished second and third.
At the Penken Battle there was even more reasons to celebrate than just the contest itself. First reason was the Penken Park Mayrhofen itself, which is celebrating “20 years of Penken Park” this season. The second reason is QParks, celebrating “15 Years for Freestyle” and thus 15 years of Quality Snowparks. To mark the occasion, a big fat chocolate cake was served to all participants.
The third stop of the QParks Tour was a great success and the next one is already in sight.
