Kailua Kona is located in the North Kona District, Hawaii. It is a lively seaside town with sunny tropical weather all year long and lies at the bottom of the Hualalai Volcano.
The town hosts many interesting historical sites and is famous for its Kona Coffee cultivation and the crystal clear sea. Kona International Airport is located at fifteen minutes in the south of the main town. Along the sea side, there are shops and schools to buy or rent diving gear as well as take lessons if you are a beginner.
Alua Beach is perfect for beginners and children. It has an average depth of 6.1 m/20 ft and maximum depth 18.3 m/60 ft with no sea currents and good visibility.
The biodiversity of the bottom is interesting with a lot of colored tropical fish, eels, sea turtles, Manta Rays, big rocks and corals. Divers should be careful of boat traffic coming from Honokohau Harbor.
