Saona Island is a tropical island that is situated on the southeast tip of the Dominican Republic and is also part of East National Park. It is considered by many to be the earthly paradise. In fact, it is a very popular destination for tourists from all over the world. The island is not accessible by car or airplane, but this is not a problem, as many organised excursions are daily on offer.
The site enchants visitors with its exquisite beaches, the tropical, turquoise waters and the white sand. You can either choose to relax and admire the beauty of the landscape, with the coconut palms and the endless sky, or try snorkeling and scuba diving in the coral reefs.
Ruben is an interesting dive site that is located right off the coast of Saona Island, close to El Canal dive site. The spot, as the rest of the reefs around the island, is rich in marine life, with a vast number of tropical fish, hundreds of starfish, nurse sharks, lion fish, butterfly fish, reef sharks, turtles and seahorses to name just a few. In addition, divers will come across various hard and soft corals and sponges.
The island has a tropical climate, with an average temperature of 30 °C/86 °F. Furthermore, it provides useful facilities, like bathrooms and showers. Keep in mind that the dive site is appropriate for more experienced divers. Finally, if you find yourself in this place, do not miss the opportunity to visit the picturesque village of Mano Juan, which is the only inhabited place on the island.
