The Bahamas, officially called ''The Commonwealth of the Bahamas'' is a country located in the western Atlantic Ocean. It consists of more than 700 island, cays and islets standing at the southeastern side of the state of Florida, north of Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

New Providence is the most popular island in the Bahamas. Nassau, the national capital city is situated on the northeastern side of this island. There are many reasons to visit New Providence. One of them is that the island offers a great amount of interesting dive sites. The most exciting one is of course shark diving at Shark Encounter. Grab the opportunity and observe the sharks’ feeding, that takes place about three times a week by experienced guides. As you will see, they are friendly and they have gained an amazing relationship with the guides. Shark Encounter dive spot is located in the south-western side of New Providence.

As for the more technical features, the average depth of this dive site is 15 m/49.2 ft, while the maximum depth is 25 m/82 ft. The climate of the Bahamas is sub-tropical to tropical. So, the weather is pretty warm all year round. The average temperatures range from 17°C/62.6°F to 32°C/89.6°F. During the summer, the temperature of the water is about 28°C/82.4°F, while during winter months, the temperature of the water is about 23°C/73.4°F. Hurricanes usually affect the weather conditions, either as a local phenomenon or not, in case of passing through the surrounding area of the island. The hurricane season lasts from July to October.
